Dispute a Direct Debit

If you spot an error in a Direct Debit charge, we recommend contacting the merchant directly. They're usually able to resolve difficulties with Direct Debits.

If the solution provided by the merchant isn't acceptable, you can dispute the Direct Debit.

Disputing a Direct Debit:

  • EUR: you can request an immediate refund within 8 weeks of the debit date. If the mandate wasn’t authorised by, you have up to 13 months to request a refund after your account was debited
  • GBP: you may be eligible to receive a refund under the UK Direct Debit Guarantee scheme

For SEPA B2B Direct Debits, the debtor doesn't have refund rights, but you can raise a dispute through the Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) within the European Payments Council (EPC) board. You can find more information in the EPC’s rulebook.
