How will Bulgaria adopting EUR affect me?

Bulgaria will adopt the Euro (EUR) as a currency on 1 January 2026. This means that the current local currency, the Bulgarian Lev (BGN), will be discontinued.

From 27 November 2025, you won't be able to send BGN

We rely on payment partners to provide local payment capabilities (bank transfers in BGN). This means we need to match dates of the discontinuation of our BGN bank transfer services with our partners. So you'll only be able to receive BGN bank transfers until 10 December 2025.

From 27 November 2025, you won't be able to transfer BGN to other Revolut customers. Your existing BGN beneficiaries will be converted to EUR, and you won't be able to create new BGN ones. You can still make and receive card transfers until 17 December 2025. Scheduled payments will be cancelled.

You can still use your card to make purchases, and withdraw money in BGN until 31 December 2025. However, these transactions will be automatically converted to and from your EUR Pocket using the fixed exchange rate 1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN, without additional exchange fees.

All BGN currency accounts will be closed on 17 December 2025

On 17 December 2025, we'll close your BGN account, and any remaining BGN balance will be converted to EUR. Your BGN balance will be converted at the fixed exchange rate of 1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN, without additional fees. Your account details won't change.

All regular fees, such as subscription plan fees and transaction services, will be charged in EUR instead of BGN starting 17 December 2025. There won't be any extra charges or additional fees as a result of this currency change.

You won't be able to exchange any currency to BGN, or top up your account in BGN, starting 10 December 2025.

If you use our merchant acquiring services

You won't be able to generate any new BGN orders or payments, whether they're online or in-person, starting 10 December 2025. Any existing payments or orders created before this date will be settled using your EUR balance.
