Why did the merchant charge a fee for my card payment?
When you pay abroad, merchants offer to charge you in your home currency instead of the local one. If you accept, the merchant converts the amount using their own exchange rate, which often includes an extra fee. This fee is charged by the merchant, not by Revolut.
How can I avoid merchant conversion fees?
Always choose to pay in the local currency. If a card terminal, ATM, or checkout page asks whether you would like to pay in your home currency or in the local currency, choose the local currency.
When you pay in the local currency:
If you have enough balance of that currency in your Revolut account, we will take the payment directly from that balance and no fee will be charged. If you don't, we will convert the amount automatically using Revolut's competitive exchange rate. Depending on your plan, fees may apply.
