Credit Cards interest and fees

Understanding credit card interest charges

We offer an interest-free period of up to 44 days on purchases. If you don’t pay your statement balance in full, purchase interest will start accruing daily on your purchase balances, after the due date.

To benefit from the interest-free period on purchases, you must pay your statement balance in full by the due date, and not have any unpaid balance carried over from the previous statement. The interest-free period doesn’t apply to any cash-like transactions.

We charge different interest rates for different types of transactions.

Interest on purchase balance

The interest-free period applies for your purchases when you first get the credit card. You'll keep your interest-free period if you always repay your statement balance in full by the due date.

If you don't pay your credit card statement balance in full by the due date, you'll lose your interest-free period and purchase interest will accrue from the next day on all purchase balances and new purchases.

For new purchases, interest accrues daily from the date of your transaction, and will be charged at the end of the statement period for each billing cycle. Purchase interest will continue to accrue until the credit card statement is paid in full, and you'll then regain your interest-free period.

Interest on cash advances

For cash-like transactions, like money transfers and cash withdrawals, interest will accrue daily once you complete the transaction, until it’s repaid. Interest accrued in each billing cycle will be charged at the end of the statement period.

These transactions aren’t eligible for the interest-free period, deferral, or promotions, so interest applies even if you've paid your last statement in full. If you need to make this type of transaction, you should aim to pay it off as quickly as possible and not wait until the payment due date.

Other fees

Credit cards may come with various fees beyond standard interest charges, depending on how you use your card. Understanding these fees can help you manage your card more effectively. Visit our Credit Fees Page for a full breakdown.

If you used your card during the billing cycle or have any unpaid balance, and you don't make your minimum repayment, you'll be overdue on your repayment schedule, and may be charged a late fee of AUD30 each month until you repay your overdue balance.
