What are private markets?

Private markets refer to the types of investments that aren't accessible via the public markets. For example, private equity, private credit, infrastructure, real estate, and venture capital.

Although access to private markets has historically been limited to institutional and professional investors, the regulatory framework has expanded access to retail investors.

How are they different from public markets investments?

Private markets offer the potential for higher long-term returns and enhanced diversification compared to public markets, but these opportunities come with inherent risks, including restricted liquidity and the potential for partial or total loss of capital.

They are also highly risky and complex instruments. Investments are illiquid and may be subject to lockups, notice periods, and liquidity gates.
