Can I use my combo card abroad?

You can use the combo card abroad, but you need an active credit card agreement as most combo card transactions made abroad are processed as credit transactions. Otherwise, it will be declined. This applies to most transactions — online, contactless, or by swiping your card’s magnetic stripe.

Some PoS terminals and ATMs abroad may recognise your card as a debit card, usually when you’re using chip and PIN instead of contactless or swipe. In these cases, your combo card can be used as a debit card. However, we recommend that you use your global debit card for debit transactions abroad.

Credit transactions in foreign currencies, or outside of Brazil, are subject to Imposto sobre Operações Financeiras (IOF) and exchange rate spread.

Contactless transactions

When paying abroad with contactless, or with your mobile wallet (Apple Pay or Google Pay), your local card will be read as a credit card and these payments will be considered ‌credit card transactions.

Therefore, you’ll need an active credit card contract and enough credit limit available for these transactions to be processed. If you don’t have a credit card contract, these transactions will be declined.
