What happens if the Revolut account holder passes away?

Coping with bereavement can be very difficult — that's why we're here to help you navigate your loved one’s finances after they pass away. This isn't legal advice, and we encourage you to seek the help of a professional adviser with expertise in wills and estates, to guide you through this process.

There are different timeframes for when a death must be registered, depending on the jurisdiction where the deceased person lived. Refer to the relevant jurisdiction's official website for further information.

Once you register the death, the relevant registry office will issue you with a death certificate. You'll need this certificate to handle all the deceased person's affairs, e.g. their Revolut account.

Get in touch with Revolut

You can contact us by sending us an e-mail to [email protected].

We only communicate about bereavement cases via email. If you're a Revolut customer, you can reach out to Revolut Support via the in-app chat for assistance, but our dedicated Bereavement team will manage the account closure process for the deceased person's account with you via email.

We should be in touch with you within 15 days. Depending on the complexity of the case, and ongoing court proceedings, the process to withdraw any remaining balance, if relevant, and fully close the deceased's account may take from a few days to a year.

Personal information and documents to provide to Revolut

  • Deceased person's full legal name, date of birth, phone number, and email address linked to their Revolut account

Once we receive the information we need, we’ll:

  • cancel all scheduled outbound payments
  • cancel all paid services the deceased person had with us
  • terminate all Revolut cards
  • stop all marketing and communications
  • inform you of everything we need to settle the estate, including the transfer of any remaining balance to the inheritor(s) or solicitor

Before transferring the remaining balance and account closure, any investments held with other Revolut group entities by the deceased person will be sold and the equivalent value together with any available funds will be credited to the main balance of the deceased person's account.

We should be in touch with you within 15 days. Depending on the complexity of the case and any ongoing court proceedings, the processes to withdraw any remaining balance to the inheritor(s) or solicitor's account(s) and fully close the deceased person's account may take from a few days to a year.
