Help with my AHV/AVS Number
What is an AHV/AVS number?
The AHV/AVS number (also called OASI number) is a unique identification number used for social security purposes in Switzerland. The number begins with the number 756, followed by random numbers. It's anonymous and doesn't reveal any personal information.
Where can I find my AHV number?
- Health insurance card
- AHV card or AHV-Ausweis
- Payslips
- Official letters from government agencies or social security institutions
- If you can't find your AHV number, contact your local AHV office (Ausgleichskasse) or the Swiss Federal Social Insurance Office for assistance
I don’t have any of the above, how can I find my AHV number?
If you're a foreign diplomat, member of a foreign representation, or an employee of an international organisation in Switzerland, your AHV number is created when your legitimacy card is issued by the Swiss representation. Please contact the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN for more info.
If you're a Swiss national living abroad, contact your local Swiss representation. If you’ve paid contributions in Switzerland, contact the Swiss Compensation Office. If you're a foreigner wishing to work in Switzerland, the compensation office will request an AHV number once your employment starts.
Holders of a Permit S may contact one of the federal asylum centres or cantonal contact points.
