Set up a Direct Debit
A Direct Debit is an automated payment method that gives the merchant the authority to withdraw money from your bank account at regular intervals. You can find active Direct Debits under 'Upcoming' in the 'Transfers' section.
Supported Direct Debits
- Supported currencies: GBP and EUR
- Supported types: Core Direct Debit and SEPA B2B Direct Debit schemes
You can only set up Direct Debits in the country where your account was opened. For example, you can't use a USD pocket to set up a Direct Debit in the US.
What's the difference between SEPA B2B Direct Debit and SEPA Core Direct Debit?
A SEPA Core Direct Debit is similar to the one you would set up as with your personal account. Once you give the merchant permission to withdraw money by providing them with your account details, they'll set up the Direct Debit payment.
SEPA B2B Direct Debits are intended for business transactions, and require a more thorough set-up process. The merchant will still set up the Direct Debit payment once they receive your bank details, but on top of that the issuing bank will check those details against a signed mandate which you'll need to upload in Revolut Business.
Because these processes differ, the process to dispute a payment differs as well. For a Core Direct Debit, you can contest the payment within 13 weeks of the collection. For B2B Direct Debits, if payment was incorrectly taken without a signed mandate, it will be credited back to your account again. If money was collected in accordance with a signed mandate which was correctly uploaded on Revolut, you won't be able to dispute the payment or be refunded.
How to set up an outbound Direct Debit Core
Direct Debits should be established directly with the company you want to pay — contact them and provide them with your local EUR or GBP account details. It's not possible to set up the Direct Debit through your Revolut Business account.
After the Direct Debit is set up, the company will be authorised to withdraw funds from your account.
How to authorise SEPA B2B Direct Debit
The merchant will provide you with a mandate, which you need to sign and upload in your Revolut Business account. If you have not received a mandate yet, contact the merchant. Then, in the Revolut Business app:
- Go to 'Transfers' on the main menu
- Click the three dots '...', then 'Settings' and 'Authorise direct debit'
- Enter the mandate details (creditor's name, creditor identifier and reference) and upload a mandate (PDF or image)
- Confirm authorisation
Can I transfer a Direct Debit from another account?
You can't transfer a Direct Debit from one account to another. If your account details have changed, we recommend you contact the merchant and provide them with your new payment details so that they can start collecting money from the updated account.
Fees and limits
Revolut doesn't charge fees for setting up or processing Direct Debits (currency conversion fees could apply). You can set up as many different Direct Debits as you want, for any amount.
Can I use Direct Debit to receive payments?
At the moment, Revolut doesn't support inbound Direct Debits. You can only use Direct Debit to make outbound payments.
