Travel insurance for areas affected by conflict

What to do if you’re in a conflict area

If you’re currently in a region experiencing conflict, be aware of how your cover works:

  • Your travel insurance doesn't cover any claims caused by a war or act of war, whether or not one has been declared
  • If your flight is cancelled by the airline, contact them directly for a refund or to rebook travel as these types of cancellations should be handled by the carrier
  • This exclusion doesn't apply to emergency medical expenses overseas, read more about contacting XCover Assist in this article
  • If you're affected by a crisis abroad, get in touch with your country’s department of foreign affairs or nearest embassy for guidance

If your trip hasn't started yet

If you're planning or have a trip coming up in a region currently experiencing conflict:

  • Your policy doesn't cover any claim caused by changes in travel advice from any local government or national authority, or where you’re travelling against government advice
  • Cover also doesn't apply if you cancel for a reason that's not specifically insured by your policy
  • If your trip is cancelled by your airline or the airport, contact them directly for a refund or to reschedule, these types of cancellations should be handled by the carrier and not by your insurance policy
