Tips for using an ATM

You can withdraw cash from an ATM in your home country or overseas if the ATM supports Visa or Mastercard, but please look out for fees that ATM operators may apply.

ATM asks you to choose an account

Sometimes when you use an ATM, you'll be asked to choose between a 'credit', 'checking', or 'savings' account. You should choose either a 'checking' or 'savings' account.

Currency conversion tips

If the ATM asks whether you would like to complete the transaction 'with conversion' or 'without conversion', you should choose 'without conversion'. If you choose 'with conversion', the ATM provider may apply their own exchange rate.

You should opt to be charged in the local currency of the country you’re in. For example:

  • If you’re in Thailand, choose Thai Baht
  • If you’re in Spain, choose Euros
  • If you’re in the United States, choose US Dollars
