Information needed to open an investment account

During the sign-up process for trading, you'll need to answer multiple questions and provide some information for regulatory purposes.

They include (but are not limited to):

  • Confirming you aren't a US citizen or resident: We can't open investment accounts for US citizens outside of the USA as per regulatory requirements. Read this FAQ to learn more about it
  • National identifier details: The national identifier, or national identity number (NIN), is related to your first nationality, as a national of a given country. For more information about the national identifier or national identity number (NIN), go to this FAQ
  • Occupation: Provide occupation as close as possible to your current job
  • Affiliation: Confirm if you are affiliated with or employed by a stock exchange, member firm of an exchange of FINRA, or a municipal securities broker-dealer
  • Tax identification number: Your TIN has to match the country of your residency (where your Revolut account is registered)

If you don't have a TIN (for example, if you are a student or your tax residency doesn't match the residency country in your Revolut account), you won't be able to open an investment account.

If your country of residence is different from your country of nationality, we'll also request a transaction reporting number, which is usually a TIN or national ID number. Find out more about your transaction reporting number in this article. Customers need to provide this to be able to onboard due to regulatory requirements.

Common reasons investment account applications may be declined

The sign-up processmay be rejected or delayed in the following circumstances:

  • You provided incorrect TIN(s)
  • The TIN(s) provided in your main Revolut account should match the one you enter during the sign-up process. To learn more, read this FAQ in our Help Centre
  • If you've previously had an investment account with Revolut, we need to carry out some additional checks before we can approve the sign-up

If your investment account verification is pending for longer than 2 business days, you can contact us via the in-app chat.
