Why did my payment amount change?

Why did the merchant update my payment amount?

Merchants can update a payment's amount if the quantity of goods or services you consumed has changed since you started the payment.

This could be the addition of a tip when using a food delivery app, a change in route that affects the cost of an Uber ride, or any situation where the product or service price might change before you pay for it.

When do payment updates usually happen?

Payment updates are common among merchants for things like transport, food, energy, accommodation, and car rentals.

What should I do next?

If you disagree with the updated amount, contact the merchant. If this is unproductive, you can raise a chargeback request to recover your funds:

  • Return to the payment screen and scroll down to 'Get help'
  • Select 'I was charged incorrectly'
  • Tap 'Raise a dispute'
  • Follow the steps to complete a chargeback request
