Tips for spending in a foreign currency

Review your currency exchange allowance and fees

You will be charged a fee if you:

  • Make an exchange or transaction that forces an exchange and, as a result, you exceed your monthly exchange allowance
  • Make an exchange or transaction that forces an exchange on the weekend, when weekend exchange fees apply

Review your account balances

If you don’t have enough of the transaction currency, other currency accounts may be charged and result in a fee. Learn more in this article.

You can open a currency account and exchange funds in advance of spending to preview fees. However, if you then have unused funds in that currency and wish to exchange it back to your base currency, exchange fees may apply.

Always pay in the local currency

If prompted, choose to pay in the local currency and reject any exchanges. If you have enough of the local currency, you shouldn't be charged any additional fees for exchanges by Revolut. If you do not have enough of the local currency, Revolut’s exchange rates and fees are typically better.
