Unblocking frozen funds
How can I access my frozen funds?
Under sections 11/A–13/A of Act LII of 2017 (the Sanctions Act), if your assets are frozen due to EU or UN sanctions, you may request an exemption to release funds for the following purposes:
- Basic needs: rent, mortgage, food, medicines, taxes, and utility bills
- Legal fees: reasonable expenses for legal services
- If a specific transaction is exempted from asset freeze
- Delisting: if you've been officially removed from a sanctions list
Who can apply?
- The subject of the asset freeze is you, if your assets are directly frozen. Affected persons include those whose legitimate interests are impacted by the freeze, such as a family member or business partner
How do I submit a request?
Depending on the specific section of the Sanctions Act, you must submit your request either through Revolut or directly to the Hungarian Sanctions Authority (NAV PEI, pei.nav.gov.hu/penzugyi-es-vagyoni-korlatozo-intezkedesek). If you submit your request through Revolut:
Prepare a free-format request containing all available data, facts, and circumstances related to the prohibition, including your identification data, along with supporting evidence for the release of assets, and submit them through one of the following channels:
- If you're the subject of the asset freeze: open the Revolut app and get in touch with us via our in-app chat
- If you're an affected person: send your request and supporting documentation to szankcio-mentesites@revolut.com
Who approves my request?
We act as a facilitator, not a decision-maker. We will submit your request to the NAV PEI to continue according to the Sanctions Act. Depending on the reason for the freeze, the exemption licence will be issued by either the respective court or the Sanctions Authority.
