What is Revolut Tap to Pay iOS SDK?
By using the Revolut Tap to Pay iOS SDK, developers can enable seamless payment completion directly within their custom iPhone app's native checkout flow.
This allows Revolut Business merchants to accept in-person payments, via contactless cards or mobile wallets, directly on an iPhone without requiring any external hardware or disrupting the existing user experience.
What you need
- Revolut Business account with merchant acceptance
- Registered partner app with tap_to_pay_sdk OAuth scope enabled
- Registered iOS Bundle ID in the Apple Appstore
- Secure backend for storing OAuth tokens & API calls
- iPhone XS or newer (iOS 16.0+) with Apple Tap to Pay enabled
The app must be registered and approved by Revolut before it can take live payments. Card details are never shared with the app or your device — Tap to Pay on iPhone encrypts each payment.
Getting Started
You can read the full process in our Revolut Developer Portal. The first steps are:
Make sure you fulfill all items in our implementation checklist. Once prerequisites are met, follow the instructions in our documentation to implement the OAuth 2.0 PKCE consent flow on your backend and initialize the RevolutTapToPayKit SDK within your iOS app.
SDK responsibilities vs. app integration responsibilities
The SDK automatically manages reader pairing, card reader tokens for Apple's ProximityReader framework, and the complete Revolut payment flow. It presents required user actions, tracks real-time transaction status, and returns the final payment result directly to your app.
Your iOS app manages the overall payment experience: requesting short-lived SDK tokens from your backend, initializing the SDK, and starting sessions with amount and reference details. It also handles displaying prompts, errors, and outcomes to the merchant while updating your order or POS state.
