Errors with setting up Direct Debits

Why can’t I set up certain Direct Debits on my account?

At the moment, you might experience difficulties setting up some Direct Debits (such as utility bills, loans, or subscriptions) with certain Italian service providers.

This is due to specific technical requirements involving the SEDA protocol, an additional SEPA mandate system used in Italy. While adherence to SEDA is legally voluntary, many local providers treat it as a mandatory requirement for accepting Direct Debit instructions.

We know how important it is to centralise your recurring payments in one place. Our technical team is hard at work integrating this standard to bridge the gap with local providers. Our goal is to ensure that your Italian IBAN is fully compatible with all Italian services as soon as possible.

What can I do in the meantime?

  • Pay by card: some service providers allow you to link your Revolut card for recurring payments
  • Manual transfers: some service providers allow you to pay invoices via bank transfer, you just need to send the invoice amount to the IBAN indicated in the invoice directly from the Revolut app
