How to recognise and report credit fraud

Common credit fraud types

  • Impersonation: Fraudsters can pretend to be a trusted individual, company, or institution. They may do this to access your account, to get your bank account details or your personal identity information to apply for credit in your name, or trick you into making payments to a third party
  • Investment scams: Financial scammers convince you to borrow money from a credit institution to invest in 'profitable investments'. These 'investments' may include virtual currencies or transfers to a fraudulent trading or virtual currency exchange platform
  • Phishing: Financial scammers send fake emails or texts with links designed to steal your personal information, bank account, or credit card information

Safety tips

Revolut will never ask you to share an OTP (one-time passcodes) with us over the phone, in chat, or by email. OTPs are for verification and, if you are sent one to log into any of your accounts, you should never share it.

We will never ask you to make payments to a third party or a virtual currency exchange platform. We will never pressure you to invest your money using personal or borrowed funds, or urge you to take immediate action or make urgent payments through suspicious emails.

We will never ask you to make a prepayment to get a loan or a credit card with us. Learn how to protect your money from scammers by completing the 'Stay one step ahead of scammers' course in the Revolut app and by visiting this guide.
