Accessing US assets

Can my business trade US assets?

If your business is classified as an Active Non-Financial Entity (Active NFE), it can trade US assets. Active NFEs incorporated in the UK or EEA can trade US assets (such as stocks and ETFs) through Business Invest (an investment account).

If your business is classified as a Passive NFE or a financial institution, US asset trading is not yet available but is on our roadmap and will be supported in the near future.

What do I need to complete to access US assets?

If you're an eligible Active NFE, you'll need to:

  • Confirm your tax residency and Tax Identification Number (TIN)
  • Self-certify your treaty eligibility (Limitation on Benefits / LOB)
  • Review and acknowledge the W-8BEN-E declarations (pre-filled using your existing business data)

Once acknowledged, your W-8BEN-E is generated automatically and you can start trading US assets immediately.

What is an Active NFE?

An Active NFE is a business that earns the majority (>50%) of its income from active commercial operations, rather than from passive investment income.
