What are payment scams?

Payment scams can happen when fraudsters deceive you into making a transaction that appears genuine, but it benefits them instead. This often involves impersonation.

A common online payment scam involves fraudsters posing as sellers on marketplaces, offering great deals. After receiving a payment, they disappear, leaving victims at a loss. When you’re online shopping, always make sure you stay scam-aware and keep vigilant.

What can I do to avoid scams?

  1. Be wary of offers that seem too good to be true.
  2. Shop with reputable retailers and check online reviews before making a purchase.
  3. Ask questions and request additional information from merchants.
  4. Use secure payment methods, like debit cards and credit cards, and avoid bank transfers for transactions.
  5. Pay attention to in-app warnings from us, especially if you’re being pressured to make quick payments.
  6. Verify the authenticity of websites before entering any sensitive information.

Never enter your bank or card details on an untrustworthy website. This includes your online banking password and your card PIN.
