How does TP/SL work?

A TP/SL ('Take Profit / Stop Loss') order lets you automatically sell an asset to take profit if the price increases, or stop loss if it decreases. For example, if you bought crypto at $100 you can set up a TP/SL order to take profit if the price goes up to $200 and stop loss if it goes down to $50.

You can set a 'Take Profit', a 'Stop Loss', or both together.

  • Take Profit: triggers when the price rises to your target, locking in your gains
  • Stop Loss: triggers when the index price falls to your threshold, limiting your losses
  • When you set both TP and SL together, they work as a one-cancels-the-other (OCO) order — if one triggers, the other is cancelled

What’s an index price?

The index price is a weighted average of the asset's price across major exchanges, designed to stay close to the mid price in the order book. Revolut X uses it to trigger 'TP/SL' or 'Conditional' orders, rather than the last traded price, to avoid premature triggers from temporary price spikes.

There are two ways to set up a TP/SL on Revolut X, as outlined below.

As a standalone sell order

  • Go to 'Trade'
  • Select 'TP/SL' from the order type selector
  • Set your 'Take Profit' trigger, 'Stop Loss' trigger, or both
  • Confirm to place the order

To place a dedicated TP/SL order, you must have a balance of the corresponding asset in your spot account.

Attached to a market or limit buy order

When placing a 'Market' or 'Limit' order, you can attach a TP/SL directly to it before confirming:

  • Set up your Market or Limit order as usual
  • Tap '+ Add' next to TP/SL at the bottom of the order form
  • Set your 'Take Profit' trigger, 'Stop Loss' trigger, or both
  • Confirm to place the order
  • TP/SL order will be placed as soon as the original order is fully filled
