What is SPEI and how does it work?
SPEI (Sistema de Pagos Electrónicos Interbancarios) is Mexico’s real-time electronic transfer system operated by Banco de México. With Revolut, you can send and receive SPEI transfers quickly and securely.
How to receive money via SPEI
To receive a SPEI transfer in your Revolut account:
- Share your CLABE with the sender
- Once the transfer is initiated, it should appear in your account within minutes, depending on the sending bank
How to send money via SPEI
To send a SPEI transfer:
- Go to 'Payments' on the bottom menu
- Tap the '+' icon in the top right corner
- Select 'Bank recipient'
- Enter the recipient's name and CLABE and select 'Continue'
- Review the details and select 'Send'
- Check the transfer status and confirm funds arrival
You'll get a notification once the transfer is sent and another when the card is on its way.
How long does a SPEI transfer take?
SPEI transfers usually arrive in minutes. In rare cases, they may take up to 24 hours if Revolut or the recipient’s bank needs to review the transfer for security. You can check the status anytime by going to your 'Transaction history' in-app and tapping the transfer.
