Card and contactless payments

You must have an active Merchant account, your identity verification completed, and have the necessary account permissions to use Revolut Reader. You can accept payments via the following methods:

  • Mastercard and Visa card payments
  • Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay
  • Chip & PIN and contactless payments

Revolut Reader supports the following currencies: AUD, CAD, CHF, DKK, EUR, GBP, HKD, JPY, NOK, NZD, PLN, SEK, USD, and ZAR.

The reader has a single transaction limit equivalent to 20,000 GBP. 

Creating a request with the card reader: 

To request a payment:

  1. Go to the Merchant tab
  2. 'Request'
  3. 'Card reader'
  4. You'll be prompted to connect to a reader and enter the amount of the payment

When the payment has been authorised, you'll see a confirmation message both on the terminal and within the Revolut Business app. You'll also see an option on the confirmation screen to send the customer a receipt.

Checking the status of the transaction:

The status of a transaction will appear both in the mobile app and on the card reader. 

In the mobile app:

  • A message saying ‘Successful’ or ‘Declined’ will be displayed on your screen.
  • You can view the outcome of this payment within the Merchant tab in the transactions list

On the card reader:

  • You'll see a message saying 'Successful' or 'Declined' on your screen
  • The card reader will beep once if the transaction is successful

The card reader will beep twice if the transaction is declined.

Once you have processed a payment via the card reader:

Funds will appear in your Merchant account 24 hours after the payment is made. To access the money, go to the Merchant tab, select 'Withdraw' and transfer funds to your Business account. Learn more.
