Who can open a Basic account?

Eligibility criteria are:

  • A genuine reason for opening a payment account in the Netherlands
  • No convictions related to fraud or money laundering within the past eight years
  • No previous misuse of an account for criminal activities within the past two years

Basic payment accounts are available to EU residents who don't currently hold or haven't applied for an account with another bank in the Netherlands. You can learn more about Basic accounts on this page

What if you’re rejected for a Basic account?

After you submit your application for a Basic account, we’ll review it carefully. If you fail to meet the eligibility criteria, your application will be rejected and we’ll notify you via email.

If you don’t agree with this decision, you can refer to our Complaints Policy. You have the right to complain to the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets on the AFM website and the Dutch Institute for Financial Disputes on the KIFID website.

Even if you’re not eligible for a Revolut Basic account, you may still be eligible for a basic bank account as per the basisbankrekening website
