Restricted industries for Merchant accounts
Restricted businesses may be onboarded under different terms. As per our Payment Processing Services Agreement, full access to transaction proceeds may be restricted, with Revolut holding a percentage in reserve for a set period.
See the list below to find out which industries and business models we don’t currently support for Merchant accounts. This list is constantly changing based on our offerings and partner agreements, so even if your industry isn’t currently eligible, make sure to check again in the future.
Restricted industries
- Airlines, air carriers, and airports
- Alcohol sales
- Car (and other vehicle) rental agencies
- Construction materials and installation contractors
- Digital goods and applications
- Direct marketing
- Electronics, computer equipment, and software services
- Financial and insurance services (where not prohibited)
- Furniture sellers
- Government-related services
- High-value goods (e.g. jewellery, precious metals, and stones)
- Lodging – hotels, motels, & resorts
- Marketplaces
- Medical and dental device manufacturers
- Medical services (where not prohibited): chiropractors, dentists, physiotherapists
- Merchants importing & reselling products where EU licensing requirements vary (e.g. hoverboards, scooters, toy guns)

- Merchants importing products must be able to provide proof of 3rd-party liability insurance for said products
- Professional services — health and beauty (spas, massage therapists, modelling agencies)
- Professional services — web services (social media management, web design)
- Remote desktop support, tech support, and repair services
- Subscription models — contracts cannot exceed 12 months without renewal
- Subscription models — customers must be notified at least 7 days prior to auto-renewal
- Telecommunication companies (phone service providers, SIM cards, etc.)

- Transportation and freight services
- Travel providers, agencies, and tour operators
- Compliance requires maintaining valid operating licenses where applicable across all listed categories
- Merchants operating within these restricted categories may be subject to additional onboarding checks, ongoing risk monitoring, and specific settlement terms under payment processing agreements.
