Why did the gas station overcharge me?
When you swipe a Revolut card at automated fuel dispenser stations (“pay at the pump”), the transaction may be preauthorized (held) for an amount higher than the actual purchase amount. Preauthorization is a temporary hold placed on your balance to make sure that there are enough funds to cover the cost of your fuel purchase.
Once the purchase is processed, the held money will be released and your balance will be adjusted.
You can avoid preauthorization holds in the future by paying for the fuel purchase inside the gas station, at the register, for the actual amount of fuel you want to purchase (instead of swiping your card at the pump).
