Set up a SEPA B2B Direct Debit

Difference between SEPA Core and SEPA B2B Direct Debits

SEPA Core Direct Debits are similar to the Direct Debits you can set up with your personal account. They’re set up directly by the merchant once they receive your bank details, and they are available to both Revolut Retail and Business customers.

Once you give the merchant permission to withdraw money (by providing them with your account details), they'll set up the Direct Debit payment.

SEPA B2B Direct Debits are for business transactions and require a more detailed setup than SEPA Core. The merchant sets up the payment once they receive your bank details, but the issuing bank checks those details against a signed mandate, which you'll need to upload in Revolut Business.

How to authorise SEPA B2B Direct Debits

The merchant will provide you with a mandate, which you’ll need to sign and upload to your Revolut Business account. If you haven't received a mandate yet, contact the merchant. Then, in the Revolut Business app:

  • Go to 'Transfers' on the main menu
  • Click the three dots '...', choose 'Settings', and 'Authorise direct debit'
  • Enter the mandate details (creditor's name, identifier, and reference) and upload a mandate (PDF or image)
  • Optional: set a maximum amount limit for future debits
  • Confirm authorisation

Direct Debits will be deducted from the main currency of the Revolut Business account. If a Direct Debit exceeds the limit set in the mandate or the maximum amount limit, the payment will be declined.

SEPA B2B Direct Debit eligibility

The following business types are not eligible to set up SEPA B2B Direct Debits using their Revolut Business account:

  • Freelancers and sole traders
  • Micro-enterprises — businesses where the annual turnover and/or annual balance sheet total doesn't exceed €2 million (or €3 million for IE customers)

To use SEPA B2B Direct Debits, make sure your business is registered in a supported country and that your Revolut Business account is also set up in the same country. For example, you cannot set up a SEPA B2B Direct Debit for your company in France if your account was opened in Poland.

SEPA B2B Direct Debit disputes

Because the processes to set up a SEPA Core Direct Debit and SEPA B2B Direct Debit differ, the process to dispute a payment differs as well.

For B2B Direct Debits, if a payment was incorrectly taken without a signed mandate, it will be credited back to your account. If money was collected in accordance with a signed mandate which was correctly uploaded on Revolut, you won't be able to dispute the payment or be refunded.
