What should I know about SWIFT transfers?

SWIFT is the most common international transfer schema via the SWIFT international payment network, one of the largest financial messaging systems in the world. You can send and receive SWIFT payments using your Revolut Business account.

SWIFT transfers are usually sent using IBAN and BIC/SWIFT code – find them in your currency account details international tab. The field for recipient account details could require a different type of information (i.e. account number), this is likely a better (faster or lower cost) option available, and you should use local account details when available.

Here are a few things to note about SWIFT transfers:

  • Make sure the transfer is sent in a supported currency and from a supported country.
  • When transferring internationally, some banks will require an 11 digit BIC/SWIFT code. As such, you may need to append 'XXX' to your BIC/SWIFT code (e.g: REVOLT21, then same as REVOLT21XXX).
  • If the sender has trouble entering your account details, send them your account confirmation and ask them to contact their bank support.
  • Your intermediary BIC code can be found in account details international tab.
  • SWIFT transfers can take up to 5 working days (see timeframes) and you'll be charged 5 € if you exceed your international transfers allowance limit (see fees page).
  • Transaction size limits that apply for each currency will be shown in-app before you send money.

If you have any issues receiving a transfer, make sure the transfer is sent using your correct account details and please ask the sender to reach out their bank for help. If you're having issues with completing a transfer, visit our article on transfers that weren't received.
