What fees and refunds apply if I change my subscription?
Changing your subscription includes downgrading from Elite to Essential or cancelling it.
Whether you get a refund or are charged a fee depends on different elements, such as the timing of the change (since first subscription), whether you have used or been granted any subscription benefits, and whether you have ordered a physical card.
IHG status (Silver on Essential / Platinum on Elite) counts as a benefit and is granted once your IHG account is linked.
Essential subscription cancellation
If you are on Essential and cancel, you are not entitled to a refund, and there are no additional cancellation charges.
Elite subscription cancellation
If you cancel your Elite subscription within the first 14 days of subscribing, you are eligible for a refund of the £18 subscription fee only if you have not redeemed or been granted any subscription benefits within those 14 days.
If you cancel your Elite subscription after 14 days but before 6 months, a cancellation fee of £18 applies for the costs of terminating your Elite subscription. The cancellation takes effect at the end of your current subscription month. No refund is provided.
If you cancel after 6 months, there is no cancellation fee and no refund. The cancellation takes effect at the end of your current subscription month.
Elite subscription downgrade
If you downgrade your Elite subscription within the first 14 days of subscribing, the downgrade takes effect immediately, and you are eligible for a refund of the £18 subscription fee only if you have not redeemed or been granted any subscription benefits within those 14 days.
If you downgrade your Elite subscription after the first 14 days of subscribing, the downgrade takes effect at the end of the paid billing period, and no refund is provided.
If you downgrade from Elite to Essential within 6 months of subscribing, you will need to pay a £39.99 fee for the cost of the Elite card and terminating your Elite subscription
