Declined loan application

Common reasons an application may be declined

We assess several factors, so applications can be declined for different reasons. If you are declined we’ll explain the type of data used and if information from a credit reference agency influenced the decision. We can’t provide the specific reason for a decline. Common decline reasons include:

  • Your credit score, or other details on your credit file do not meet our lending criteria
  • The way you've managed your account with Revolut in the past
  • Our assessment of your income and expenditure suggests credit might not be affordable
  • You don't meet our eligibility criteria

If your application was declined, our customer support agents won't be able to provide further details on why it was rejected.

Can I reapply if my application was declined?

We recommend waiting at least 30 days before reapplying, unless your circumstances have changed or your previous information was wrong. If you correct information, wait at least 48 hours for our systems to update.

You have the right to appeal any decisions we’ve made without manual intervention. However we’ll only be able to overturn decisions if there is evidence that wasn’t available to us when we made our decision (eg. if there was an error with your credit file). If this is the case then message us.

Tips to improve your chance of being accepted in the future

Understand your credit score and credit file - you can request your free statutory credit report online or by post from any of the 3 main UK credit reference agencies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.

Electoral roll - register for the electoral roll to help the credit reference agencies validate your address.

Build a good credit history - evidence good financial management by making credit and utilities payments on time. Avoid too many hard credit searches in a small space of time.
