What are trading regulatory fees and taxes?

US stocks

Regulators, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), impose fees on trading US stocks. When applicable, the fees are charged on sell orders and withheld from your sales proceeds.

From 4 April 2026, the SEC levied a fee of $20.60 per $1,000,000 of principal sold, rounded up to the nearest cent. The fee is applied proportionally for lower transactions under $1,000,000, with the fee minimum of $0.01. For example, a $1,000 sell order will have an SEC fee of $0.02.

From 1 January 2026, FINRA adds a Trading Activity Fee (TAF) for sales of stocks at a rate of $0.000195 per share. A minimum charge of $0.01 and a maximum charge of $9.79 apply. The 'SEC' and 'Trading activity' fees can be found in the 'Fee breakdown' before you submit your order in-app.

European stocks

Certain countries impose a transaction tax (the Financial Transaction Tax), related to buying or selling financial instruments of companies incorporated in that country. This may vary per country and is levied by ‌local authorities.

This 'Financial Transaction Tax' can be found in the 'Fee breakdown' before you submit your order in-app and is applicable for buy orders for French, Spanish, and Italian-based companies only:

  • FR: 0.4% of the order amount
  • ES: 0.2% of the order amount
  • IT: 0.2% of the order amount

UK stocks

When purchasing UK-listed shares, a 0.5% Stamp Duty Reserve Tax (SDRT) is applied to the transaction value and collected automatically. For transactions over GBP 10,000, a GBP 1.50 Panel on Takeovers and Mergers (PTM) levy is charged to support the UK’s Takeover Panel.
