Understanding our onboarding question about affiliations
Why do I need to declare my affiliations?
When you sign up for an investment account with Revolut, we ask if you or someone close to you is employed by or affiliated with an investment firm or publicly traded company. We need this information for regulatory compliance reasons.
If you or someone close to you is employed by or affiliated with an investment firm, there may be specific rules you’ll need to follow, for example, personal account dealing rules.
By identifying this early, we can guide you through any additional steps required for you to start or continue using our services. Similarly, if you or someone close to you is employed by or affiliated with a publicly traded company, you may be subject to certain requirements when investing.
What is an investment firm?
An investment firm is a company that's received official approval or authorisation from a regulatory body to provide investment services, for example, investment management, financial advisory, and brokerage services, such as securities trading, etc.
What is a publicly traded company?
A publicly traded company is a company whose shares are available to be bought and sold by the public on a stock exchange or other trading platforms.
What does 'someone close to you' mean?
'Someone close to you' typically refers to a person with whom you have a close personal relationship, such as an immediate family member, like a spouse, child, or partner, or a close friend.
If you or someone close to you is employed by or affiliated with an investment firm or publicly traded company, it doesn't mean you can't use our investment services.
However, we may need to request further information from you or your employer to make sure we’re complying with the relevant regulations.
