National identifier required to open an investment account

As a UK-regulated entity, we must follow all regulatory reporting rules for trading listed securities. If you trade through Revolut Trading, you must provide an identifier based on your nationality (which may differ from your current country of residence).

What national identifier do I need to provide?

The national ID that you need to provide corresponds to your nationality. Where several forms of national ID are possible, they are assigned a priority ranking. You should always aim to provide the highest priority national ID possible.

National ID requirements vary by country. Some countries require a personal ID, tax number, or passport. Others (like AT, FR, DE, HU, IE, LU) don’t require a national ID. For full details by country, check the Help Centre or the email we sent you.

Which national ID do I use if I have multiple nationalities?

Regulation defines which country’s National ID takes priority, and the following logic applies:

  • If you have multiple EEA nationalities, provide the ID from the country that comes first alphabetically (by 2-letter code)
  • If you have EEA and non-EEA nationalities, provide the ID from the EEA country
  • If you have multiple non-EEA nationalities, use the ID from the first country alphabetically

We'll use the nationalities you declared when you onboarded to Revolut Trading to determine which national ID you should provide. If you believe we’re requesting the incorrect national ID, or your nationalities have changed, contact us via the in-app chat.

How do I provide this information?

  • Update your app to the latest version
  • Head to Invest
  • Follow the instructions within the banner notification to submit your information

If you don’t see a banner notification in the app, then you don’t need to provide any additional information at this time.

What if I don't provide the national identifier?

If you don’t provide the requested info by the deadline in the email, your account will be restricted to 'sell only' mode. You won’t be able to open or increase positions. To lift the restriction, you’ll need to submit the required information.
