How extended hours trading works

Extended hours trading is trading that occurs outside of regular trading hours. Only US whole shares on the platform are eligible for extended hours trading. See this FAQ to understand relevant risks.

Regular trading hours for stock exchanges in the US are Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 4:00pm Eastern Time (ET).

Extended hours trading occurs outside those hours — from 4:00am to 9:30am ET for pre-market and 4:00pm to 8:00pm ET for after-hours trading. Extended market hours will not be available during official US market holidays.

Order execution

Orders submitted for execution during extended market hours can only be limit orders in whole shares.

Orders will begin to queue for pre-market hours starting after the close of post-market hours on the previous trading day and will be eligible for execution during pre-market hours.

Any unexecuted or partially filled orders during pre-market hours will automatically roll over into regular market hours. If these are still not fully executed, the orders roll over into post-market hours. Orders may be cancelled if still unexecuted by the end of the post-market hours.
