The exchange rate from your BRL account to any foreign currency will follow our currency exchange provider's rates. For exchanges between BRL and USD, the business hours are 9am – 6pm (BRT). For BRL and non-USD exchanges, business hours are 9am – 5pm (BRT).
During business hours, we'll charge you 0.6% of the spread rate + 3.5% of IOF (Tax under Financial Operations). Outside business hours, we'll charge an additional 0.2% fee on top of the 0.6% spread rate, plus the 3.5% of IOF (Tax under Financial Operations).
Calculation example
Assuming the rate is BRL 1 = USD 0.20 and the amount to exchange is BRL 1,000:
During business hours
- Amount in USD without fees: BRL 1,000 * USD 0.2 USD = USD 200
- Spread fee: BRL 1,000 * USD 0.2 USD * 0.6% = USD 1.2
- IOF: BRL 1,000 BRL * USD 0.2 * 3.5% = USD 7
- Total fees during business hours: USD 1.2 USD (spread fee) + USD 7 (IOF) = USD 8.2
- Amount received after fees: USD 200 USD - USD 8.2 = USD 191.80
Outside business hours
- Amount in USD without fees: BRL 1,000 * USD 0.2 = USD 200
- Spread fee: BRL 1,000 * USD 0.2 * 0.6% = USD 1.2
- Additional fee: BRL 1,000 * USD 0.2 * 0.2% = USD 0.4
- IOF: BRL 1,000 * USD 0.2 * 3.5% = USD 7
- Total fees outside business hours: USD 1.2 (spread fee) + USD 0.4 (additional fee) + USD 7 (IOF) = USD 8.60
- Amount received after fees: USD 200 - USD 8.60 = USD 191.40
Why are the buy and sell prices different?
It's normal that the sell and buy prices are different. The difference between the two rates is called a spread. Where possible, the rate, any fee, and the total cost will be shown to you in-app before you make an exchange (e.g. for in-app exchanges or sending a transfer).
For card purchases or ATM withdrawals requiring real-time currency exchange, you’ll be able to view the breakdown of the total cost within the app after the transaction.
