How does Smart Driving work?

Device

The Smart Driving device is a small self-installed device compatible with all cars that have a 12V (cigarette lighter) socket. The device has 3 key functions:

  • 12V plug: Powers the device
  • LED light indicator: Indicates whether the device has been activated and is receiving power
  • USB charging port: Charges other devices

Lights

The LED light will flash green on the device for a few seconds, indicating that it's been activated. The green light will appear until the activation configuration has downloaded, which can take up to a minute. The light will turn off once the download is complete.

The device may also flash green when it's powered after your engine has been switched off for more than 15 minutes.

Buttons

If you press and hold the button between the LED lights, the device will sound a buzzer and flash green for a few seconds to confirm that it has power.

Can I use an old device on a new car insurance policy?

The Smart Driving device isn't transferable from one insurance policy to another. If you purchase a new Smart Driving policy with us, we'll provide a new device to be paired it. The new device must remain activated throughout the new policy period.
