Getting started with Smart Driving
What’s Smart Driving?
Our Smart Driving policy is designed to improve the way you experience Car Insurance. It uses data collected by your self-installed telematics device (like speed, acceleration and braking) to provide you with insights on your driving behaviour.
The data is used by the insurer (AIG) to determine your eligibility for rewards, such as a reduced price of the premium insurance at policy renewal. However, if poor driving behaviours are identified, your insurance premium could also increase at policy renewal.
Do I have to pay for the device?
The Smart Driving device is included with your policy. If you experience issues with your device, we'll replace it for no fee.
Installation steps
- Plug the device into your vehicle’s 12V (cigarette lighter) socket
- Start your engine and leave the ignition on for at least 2 minutes. You’ll see a green light once the device starts to receive power
- Keep your device plugged in and go for a drive on a public road for at least 1 km. This will allow the device to send a signal that will register its activation status
Report device issues
Your Smart Driving device’s status won’t immediately update in-app and can take up to 48 hours to be updated.
During this time, the device must remain plugged in to your car’s 12V socket. If your device is still inactive in the app after 48 hours, please follow the installation steps again and contact us for help.
Remove Smart Driving from a policy
It isn’t possible to remove the Smart Driving feature from a policy that has already started. If you’re eligible for a policy without the Smart Driving feature, you’ll need to cancel your current car insurance policy with us and take out a new one.
