Cover for Car Hire Excess

Car Hire Excess Protection is included for Metal and Ultra Plans only.

This coverage doesn't replace vehicle insurance. This protection covers the excess or damage liability fee for stolen or damaged rental cars when travelling, with a limit of €2000.

Eligibility criteria for Car Hire Excess protection

Along with the conditions set out in the travel insurance policy wording, the following criteria must be met to be covered for Car Hire Excess protection:

  • Your name must be on the rental agreement, and it must be signed by yourself
  • You must take reasonable care to protect the rental car and avoid an accident or collision which may cause damage
  • You must have purchased at least the most basic Collision Damage Waiver coverage offered by the rental company
  • Your Revolut Metal or Ultra plan must have become effective prior to the start of the rental car agreement
  • The licensed rental car company must be located more than 200km from your home
  • You don’t have to use your Revolut account to pay for the car rental

Key exclusions

If you're eligible for cover, you can raise a claim directly with the insurance provider. Learn more in this FAQ. Your cover may not apply if:

  • You've leased or rented a car for 32 consecutive days or longer
  • The rental car is rented via a peer-to-peer car sharing service
  • You admit liability, make payment or offer or promise to make any payment without written consent from the insurer
  • Mechanical breakdown or wear and tear of a rental car
  • You rent a vehicle type that's excluded from cover
