Information needed to open an investment account

During the sign-up process for trading, you'll need to answer multiple questions and provide some information for regulatory purposes.

They include (but are not limited to):

  • National identifier details: The national identifier, or national identity number (NIN), is related to your first nationality, as a national of a given country
  • Occupation: Provide occupation as close as possible to your current job
  • Affiliation: Confirm if you are affiliated with or employed by a stock exchange, member firm of an exchange of FINRA, or a municipal securities broker-dealer
  • SSN

If you don't have a TIN (for example, if you are a student or your tax residency doesn't match the residency country in your Revolut account), you won't be able to open an investment account.

If your country of residence is different from your country of nationality, we'll also request a transaction reporting number, which is usually a tax ID number. Find out more about your transaction reporting number in this article. Customers need to provide this to be able to onboard due to regulatory requirements.

Why would my application to open an investment account be declined?

The sign-up processmay be rejected or delayed in the following circumstances:

  • You provided incorrect SSN
  • The SSN provided in your main Revolut account should match the one you enter during the sign-up process. To learn more, read this FAQ in our Help Centre
  • If you've previously had an investment account with Revolut, we need to carry out some additional checks before we can approve the sign-up

If your investment account verification is pending for longer than 2 business days, you can contact us via the in-app chat.
