Pre-authorization holds by hotels and car rental companies
A pre-authorization is a temporary hold of funds on your payment card, often done by hotels and car rental companies. It ensures you have enough funds available for potential charges during your stay or rental period.
Can I cancel a pre-authorization?
We can't cancel pre-authorisation unless the authorisation time expires or the merchant releases the funds. If the hotel or rental company agrees to release the funds earlier, they can send a request to lift the hold.
Sometimes merchants can create a duplicate transaction. If it happens, please contact the merchant and ask to release the funds. Read more about duplicate transactions in this FAQ.
