What is a pending package scam?

Pending package scams involve fraudsters sending fake SMS messages, posing as couriers, and requesting additional payments for supposed delivery charges. Unaware customers, believing the request is legitimate, click a link to make the payment. By entering their card details, individuals grant scammers access to their information, leading to unauthorised transactions of much higher amounts than initially communicated. When you’re online shopping, always make sure you stay scam-aware and keep vigilant.

What can I do to avoid pending package scams?

  1. Double-check if the SMS was legit with the courier.
  2. Search the phone number from which the message was sent on Google to see if it's linked to the courier.
  3. Search the email address on Google to see if it’s mentioned on the official courier website.

Never enter your bank or card details on an untrustworthy website. This includes your online banking password and your card PIN.
