Get started with crypto ETNs

You should never invest unless you’re prepared to lose all the money you invest. This is a high-risk investment and you shouldn't expect to be protected if something goes wrong.

How can I access crypto ETNs?

Crypto exchange-traded notes (crypto ETNs) are high-risk investments and can be highly volatile. They're traded on the London Stock Exchange, and can be accessed through eligible investment accounts and Stocks & Shares ISA.

However, access may be subject to restrictions based on your jurisdiction, account type, or investor classification, and not all Revolut customers may be eligible to invest. Before you can access crypto ETNs, we are required to assess whether these investments are appropriate for you.

If crypto ETNs are deemed appropriate for you, you will be subject to a 24-hour cool-down period before you can start investing in them.

How is appropriateness assessed?

To determine whether crypto ETNs are appropriate for you, you'll need to complete an appropriateness test. This test assesses your investment experience, your knowledge and understanding of the product’s characteristics, and your understanding of the risks of investing in crypto ETNs.

We'll also review your client categorisation statement to determine whether you qualify as a restricted investor or a high net worth investor. Read more about the restricted investor category in this FAQ, or learn more about the high net worth investor category on this page.

If our assessment indicates that the product may not be appropriate for you, we may not be able to offer access or we may provide additional guidance and information to help you make an informed decision.

Important investor protection notice

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) doesn’t protect this type of investment because it’s not a type of investment that the FSCS can protect. Learn more by using the FSCS investment protection checker on this page.

Protection from the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) does not cover poor investment performance. If you have a complaint against an FCA-regulated firm, FOS may be able to consider it. Learn more about FOS protection, visit this website.
