Does my travel insurance cover emergency medical expenses due to Coronavirus?

From 1 July 2022, COVID-19 and pandemic coverage is included in Premium and Metal travel insurance policies. It applies to trips you make from Singapore from this date onwards. It doesn't apply to any trips you made before 1 July 2022.

Our COVID-19 and pandemic coverage includes:

Overseas emergency medical care

If you need emergency medical attention because of an epidemic or pandemic disease such as COVID-19, we'll reimburse any 'reasonable and customary costs' up to the amount shown in your coverage summary. If you're admitted to the hospital as an inpatient, we may be able to guarantee or advance payments up to the amount shown in your coverage summary.

This includes Antigen Rapid Test (ART) self-test kits. ART tests need to be prescribed by a doctor, and you should only get as many as you need to monitor your recovery.

We don't cover:

  • Medical expenses that aren't considered necessary by a medical professional
  • COVID-19 tests that you have to take in order to travel in the first place. For example, pre-departure and post-arrival tests
  • More ART self-test kits purchased than you need to monitor your recovery

Getting you to a doctor or hospital (Emergency evacuation)

If you become seriously ill because of an epidemic or pandemic disease such as COVID-19, we'll pay for emergency transport to get you to the nearest doctor or medical facility equipped to treat you.

Getting you home after treatment (Medical repatriation)

If the doctor treating you for an epidemic or pandemic disease such as COVID-19 tells us that you're well enough to travel, we'll arrange and pay for your journey home. We'll book you onto a journey in the same class as your original ticket (unless there's a medical reason not to) and use a recognised airline or transport company. If you're eligible for a refund on an unused ticket, that amount will be deducted from the amount we pay.
