If you have been a victim of fraud, your first step should always be to submit a fraud report. Afterward, use the guidance below to report the incident to the appropriate national authorities.
United States customer rights and general fraud
- Report many types of federal fraud to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at 1-877-FTC-HELP or 1-877-ID-THEFT
- Submit a report online to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov
- Report internet-related crimes to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at ic3.gov
- Contact the FBI at (202) 324-3000 or online at tips.fbi.gov
- Contact your local police department or state attorney general office for local fraud concerns
USA investment and securities fraud
- Report suspected investment fraud to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) at 800-SEC-0330 or through the 'Submit a tip or complaint' site
- Contact FINRA at 844-574-3577 or file through the FINRA 'File a tip' page
- Report scams to the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) at 202-737-0900 or through the NASAA 'How to report a scam' page
