Why is my stock on 'sell only'?

In some cases, we might restrict only the possibility of buying new shares of a stock due to a variety of reasons, while still allowing you to keep or sell the ones you bought in the past. We refer to these stocks as 'sell only' stocks.

The reasons a stock will fall under this category is usually one of the following:

  • Sanctions
  • Corporate actions
  • Operational decisions
  • Stocks trading over-the-counter (OTC) or being priced extremely low
  • Stocks facing impending delisting from exchanges
