Cover for car hire excess
Car hire excess insurance is included with Metal and Ultra plans.
This insurance covers the excess or damage liability fee for stolen or damaged rental cars when travelling, up to £2,000. It doesn't replace vehicle insurance.
Eligibility criteria
Your car rental is protected if it’s part of a trip that qualifies for cover. It can’t be a standalone rental and must be tied to your insured travel. Learn more about which trips are eligible in this article. To stay protected, you’ll also need to meet the following criteria:
- Your name must be on the rental agreement, as well as your signature
- You must take reasonable care to protect the rental car and avoid an accident or collision which may cause damage
- You must have purchased at least the most basic collision damage waiver (CDW) coverage offered by the rental company
- Your Metal or Ultra plan must be active before signing the rental car agreement
- If the rental car is your primary method of transport to your destination, you must pay with your Revolut account. If it's not your main method of transport, you don't need to pay with Revolut
Key exclusions
If you're eligible for cover, you can raise a claim directly with the insurance provider. Learn more in this FAQ. Your cover may not apply if:
- You violate the rental car agreement, including if someone who isn’t named as a driver on the agreement drives the hired car
- You've leased or rented a car for 31 consecutive days or longer
- You accept liability, make a payment, or agree to make a payment without written consent from the insurer
- There's mechanical breakdown or wear and tear of a rental car
- You rent a vehicle type that's excluded from cover
How to check your coverage
This is only a summary of your coverage. Revolut travel insurance is provided through Chubb, not Revolut itself. Chubb is responsible for policy terms, conditions, and claim handling. If you have questions about the cover, contact Chubb or read the T&Cs by following these steps in the Revolut app:
- In the search bar at the top of the screen, search for 'Insurance'
- Select 'Insurance'
- Select 'Travel insurance' and tap 'Get help'
