How to add money with a card?

We currently support Mastercard®, Visa® and Maestro® cards. American Express, Union Pay, PayPal, Cirrus Clabe, Discovery Cards are not supported. Due to international restrictions in place, it's not possible to top up your Revolut account with a bank card issued in Russia or Belarus. You can add money to your Revolut account with a card in JPY. You should add money in the currency that your card is held in. If your card is not in JPY, your bank might charge a conversion fee.

What cards and currencies are supported for a card deposit?

What banks and countries are supported for card deposits?

New Revolut users won’t be able to enable auto top-ups straight away. We’ll let you know with an in-app notification when you can use this feature.To set up an auto top-up → tap ‘Add money’ → press 'Change' → select your card and click on the 'i' icon → tap 'Add money automatically' → set up the minimum amount which your balance has to reach in order to trigger the automatic top-up and the amount which will be added → tap 'Save'.If your auto top-up is not being triggered, check <a href="/en-JP/help/adding-money/with-auto-deposit/what-should-i-do-if-the-auto-deposit-does-not-trigger">this article</a>.

How do I set up an auto top-up?

Managing auto top-upsYou can update your auto top-up details anytime in the app in section '<a href="revolut://app/auto-topup" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Add money automatically</a>' by pressing button 'edit' and applying changes.Disabling auto top-upsAnalogically, to disable auto top-ups, open '<a href="revolut://app/auto-topup" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Add money automatically</a>' section, tap 'edit' button and confirm by pressing on 'Delete' button.

How do I manage an auto top-up?

The most common reasons why an auto top-up might not be triggered: <ol><li><a href="revolut://app/faq?key=question.my-top-up-by-card-failed" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Insufficient funds</a> in your Bank account,</li><li><a href="revolut://app/faq?key=question.my-top-up-by-card-failed" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Issuer is blocking the transaction</a>,</li><li>Expired deposit card.</li></ol>Read more about auto top-ups <a href="revolut://app/faq?key=question.adding-money-automatically" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a>.

What should I do if the auto top-up does not trigger?

Verifying your deposit card lets us know that the card you used to add money to your Revolut account is your own.To find the 4-digit code used for the verification process, just check your bank statement and find a transaction with Revolut. It will appear as Revolut*1234* (This can take up to one day to appear dependent on your bank). Next, you can verify your deposit card in the <a href="revolut://app/topup-method" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">'Add money'</a> section of the app. You'll also be prompted to scan your card.

If you add money to your Revolut account with a credit card or prepaid card, you can only use that balance for shopping (i.e. card spending), but you will not be able to transfer money or withdraw cash from ATMs.Balances added with debit cards can be withdrawn from <a href="revolut://app/faq?key=question.what-features-are-disabled-when-adding-money-with-credit-cards" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">select domestic ATMs</a> and overseas ATMs.

What features are disabled when adding money with credit cards or prepaid cards?

If a card deposit is pending, it means that something didn't go as expected when it was authorized, so we're waiting for your issuer to respond to the card deposit request.A pending card deposit will eventually get marked as either completed or failed. It shouldn't take longer than 30 mins for a pending transaction to leave this state.In most cases, the funds are credited to your Revolut account if the transaction was completed. However, if the transaction failed, the funds should have stayed in card balance.Due to international restrictions in place, it's not possible to top up your Revolut account with a card issued in Russia or Belarus.

Why is my top-up by card pending?

When a card deposit fails, we instantly inform your bank about it. Sometimes it might take your bank up to five days to process our message and update your balance back to its original level.In cases like this, it's always better to confirm your recent card deposits – you can count how many times you were charged via your online banking, and how many card deposits were successful in the Revolut app.Most banks process card deposits with a slight delay, so a card deposit showing today could, in fact, be one from a few days ago.If you didn't receive your funds back after five working days, please chat to us.

My top-up by card failed but I was charged for it 

The most common reason for a card deposit to be reverted is a temporary connection issue with your issuer. It's worth checking with your issuer to see if they're currently experiencing any issues with their <a href="revolut://app/faq?key=question.my-top-up-by-card-failed" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">user authentication systems (3DS)</a>.In this case, you shouldn't be charged. But, if your funds got blocked, it might take your issuer up to five working days to process our message and update your balance back to its original level.Allow some time before attempting to top-up again. If you are still unsuccessful, try to add money via <a href="revolut://app/faq?key=question.how-can-i-add-money-to-my-revolut-account" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">alternative method</a>.

Why has my top-up by card been reverted?

Some external banks may charge you with a fee when:<ul><li>Your top-up is recognised as cash withdrawal</li><li>Your top-up is recognised as cash advance</li><li>Revolut is recognised as an international institution</li></ul>How can I know if the fee was applied by an external bank?If there was no fee displayed on the top-up screen, below the amount of your deposit and you got charged, it means your bank charged you with the fee.Unfortunately, Revolut has no visibility over external bank top-up fees. We recommend reaching out to your bank directly to understand the reason behind this.

Why did my bank charge me a fee for a top-up by card?

Unfortunately, we can't revert your card top-up.

How do I cancel a card top-up?

You will no longer be able to top up in Kuna. Top-ups will only be available to your other accounts e.g. your Euro account. Your external Croatian bank may charge some fees if you use the card to add money to your Euro account. Has Kuna discontinuation affected my top-ups?

If you've been charged twice for your card deposit and the top-up isn't visible on your Revolut account, but the amount was taken from your bank account, please contact your bank directly.If the top-up was credited to your Revolut account - you can send the money back to your bank account yourself. To find out more, check <a href="revolut://app/faq?key=question.how-do-i-send-money-to-a-bank-account" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">this article</a>.The transaction date within your bank statement may be slightly different, as card top-ups usually appear 1 to 2 days after they're made.

I've been charged twice for my top-up by card

For newly added cards, you will have a temporary limit that allows you to add a certain amount of money per 24 hours.Our automated security system is responsible for setting these limits, taking into consideration multiple factors, to ensure your account is secure. Unfortunately, we can't disclose exact limits due to security reasons. Your daily limits refresh every 24 hours and limits can be increased when you use the app and build your financial history with us.If you wish to add more than your daily limit, you can add money via <a href="revolut://app/faq?key=question.how-can-i-add-money-to-my-revolut-account" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">other methods available</a>.All details about source of funds check can be found <a href="revolut://app/faq?key=topic.source-of-funds-check" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a>.Please note that regardless of whether your card is new or not, there will always be a limit of JPY 1,000,000 per transaction.

Are there any card deposit limits?

<h4>Revolut Fees</h4>We will always disclose Revolut fee, before you add any money on the top-up screen, below the amount of your top-up.Here are the fees we charge when you add money by card:<ul><li>We don't charge any fees when you add money with a VISA debit card (excluding international and commercial cards).</li><li>We charge a 1.7% fee for all other card top-ups.</li></ul>If you think Revolut has applied an incorrect fee to your personal top-up card, request a written confirmation from your bank to prove the card is private. The document should include: first six and last four digits of the card, your personal details, name of the issuing bank, card’s billing address and indication it's a personal/non-commercial card.
